Clawfoot Tubs
What is a Clawfoot Bathtub?
A Clawfoot Bathtub is a unique style of tub that is elevated off of the ground by four decorative feet located at or near each corner of the tub. These feet may be shaped in the form of a "Lion's Claw", a "Bear Claw", an "Eagle Claw" or other types of design. Clawfoot bathtub feet normally include a popular finish such as chrome, brushed nickel, oil rubbed bronze, black, white, or other colors. Clawfoot bathtubs are chiefly made of two materials - Cast Iron or Acrylic. However, other materials are used to make these bathtubs, though they are not nearly as popular.

Unique Cast Iron Tubs For Sale
Clawfoot tubs have been around for over a century. Originally, there was only a small selection of sizes and styles produced. However, in recent years, the clawfoot tub market has expanded to include new styles and sizes. A variety of classic clawfoot tub bathroom sizes allows one to find the perfect size of a bathtub that best fits a room. Some homes may have limited space available so it is good to know there are small tubs available.
The Tub Connection also offers a wide variety of styles. The classic "rolled rim clawfoot tub" models, which were some of the first styles to be offered to the public, generally have one end which is perfect for allowing a person to lie back and relax. The opposite end is where the faucet would be mounted; either on the rim of the tub ("Deck Mount") or on the wall within the tub ("Bathtub Wall Mount") or a freestanding style; you are given the option to choose which faucet mount you prefer and remember we offer our faucets and plumbing combinations in the most popular finishes.
Another style we offer is the Double Ended Clawfoot Tub. The ends of the tub are identical and provide a comfortable place for one to recline at either end. These models have a classic vintage look and have been popular since they were first introduced. The faucet placement for this tub is in the middle of the tub.

The slipper clawfoot tub is definitely a popular vintage style available today. The slipper design has one end which is raised up to provide incredible head, neck, and back support. The raised end creates a slipper-like appearance. A faucet would be on the lower end of the tub. It can be mounted on the rim of the tub, for both acrylic and cast iron tubs, or you may choose to have no faucet holes in your tub and use a bathroom wall mount or a freestanding faucet. All of these options are fantastic with the Slipper-style tub.
Another vintage style tub that is also available in the Double Ended Slipper Clawfoot Tub. This tub is very elegant in appearance as both ends sweep up allowing for one or two to comfortably recline. Double slippers are available with no faucet holes or holes on the rim of the tub at its lowest point between the two raised sides. If you choose a tub with no faucet holes you may opt to use a bathroom wall-mounted faucet. The placement of the faucet may depend on where your in-home water supply lines enter the bathroom.
Bathtub Materials
Cast iron clawfoot tubs are extremely popular among homeowners. Because they are made of metal, they are very heavy and should never be moved or attempted to move by a single person. To protect the metal from corrosion, the interior of cast iron tubs is coated with ceramic or porcelain. Porcelain enamel is very smooth and is easy to keep clean. Be sure to follow cleaning instructions for Cast Iron and Acrylic Clawfoot Bathtubs in order to preserve the finish.
With advancements in materials over several years, Acrylic has come on the scene as a popular alternative to cast iron. Unlike the iron tubs, acrylic is very lightweight. One advantage of this is that Acrylic tubs require fewer people for moving or installation. Do not think that lightweight means low quality. Acrylic is very durable and is manufactured to last.
Foot Finishes
A vintage-style tub is not complete without the classic clawfeet. The four clawfeet are attached at the four corners beneath the tub, and available in a variety of finishes such as polished chrome, brushed nickel and oil rubbed bronze. However, other finishes like white, glossy, or matte black may also be an option.
